The Business Unit C4-Chemistry is represented by OXENO Olefinchemie GmbH which was founded on January 1, 1998. With a sales volume of nearly 1.8 million metric tons a year (2004), sales revenues of approximately € 1,071 million (2005) and a staff of 530, OXENO is the largest chemical manufacturer at the Marl Chemical Park.
Products and Areas of Application
OXENO is one of the leading manufacturers of additives that give consumer products the desired high-quality properties. In a globally unique integrated C4 production network at the Marl Site, this subsidiary of Degussa AG produces, among other chemicals, butadiene, 1-butene, isononanol and the plasticizer DINP (Di-iso-nonyl-phthalate). We encounter these products in every aspects of our daily lives after post-processing by our customers: They are mainly found in high quality synthetics and coatings, for example, in the automotive sector and in home accessories and recreational items.
However, their use is not limited to synthetics. Our products are also used in a wide range of other applications such as paints and coatings, gasoline additives, cosmetics and solvents in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry.
Markets
The main market for OXENO is Europe, followed by Asia. Because of the high acceptance of our products, we are in the process of expanding our strong market and technology position for C4 products in Europe: In February 2004, we put into operation a new product plant for 1-butene in Belgium. In addition, we are striving to become the global leader in plasticizer alcohols with our principal product isononanol.
