Teacher Training
In the area of teacher training, Degussa is cooperating with the regional organization of the Association of the Chemical Industry. The main emphasis is presenting chemistry in a hands-on manner. On the occasion of the 8. Teachers’ weekend of the chemical associations in North-Rhine Westphalia, Degussa invited teachers to the Marl research location in North-Rhine Westphalia. Under the motto of "Experiment based natural sciences teaching" the teachers participated in workshops presenting practical know-how for conducting classes with experiments. In the course of a guided tour of the plant the teachers had the opportunity to experience the high level of scientific expertise of the specialists active at Degussa. |

Teaching Materials
Degussa delivers know-how and expert knowledge for teaching materials in the specialty chemistry area – from the basics to current production processes and techniques. In cooperation with Lokando, a specialist for educational software, Degussa is compiling a digital media portfolio for teaching purposes, that is oriented to curriculums and gives due consideration to pedagogical and didactical aspects. In this way, teachers have access to valuable material for modern chemistry instruction that familiarizes students with highly complex scientific topics at an early stage. A wealth of experiments rounds off the portfolio. The first material on the topics of green diesel and amino acids was introduced at the german fair "didacta" in Hanover in February 2006. |

Open Door Day
When Degussa opens its doors, all members of staff, their families, neighbors and members of the general public interested in natural sciences have access to a wealth of information and knowledge. At all German locations the company showcases facts and findings on vocational and operational activities, innovative products and their application areas. These special event days have proved their worth in presenting areas of specialty chemistry to the general public and enabling individuals to experience products and processes. The preparations for the next "Open Door Day" in 2006 are already underway. |
