Degussa in Asia
With a workforce share of around 11% active in Asia, Degussa generated sales of EUR 1.6 billion in 2005. This represents a 14% share of total Degussa sales.
Growth regions Especially the Near and Middle East, as well as China rank as key future growth markets. There are already 20 subsidiaries with 1,400 employees active in China today, in order to serve our customers on the high-growth Chinese markets. At the Wuming location, the world’s largest production facility for the amino acid L-Methionine was commissioned in 2004. In Quingdao, Degussa is currently ramping up carbon black capacities by a significant measure.
Expanding research and development activities In the area of research and development, the first steps have already been taken in China with the opening of the new Research & Development Center in Shanghai in 2004. In addition, Degussa is also cooperating closely with the Jilin University in North China in the field of high-performance polymers. In establishing this successful project, Degussa has created a new concept for the cooperation between German companies and Chinese universities: the Jilin University develops the respective high-tech materials, while Degussa contributes its sales, marketing and project management experience, as well as committing financial means.
In addition to China and Japan, Degussa is also maintaining production locations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. |
