Degussa in Europe
Degussa is at home in 28 European countries. In 2005, the corporation generated sales of EUR 7.0 billion in Europe, of which EUR 3.3 billion were recorded in Germany, where Degussa is headquartered. Germany accounts for the largest share of the workforce (58%). Throughout the rest of Europe, 15% of Degussa's employees are active.
Expanding capacities In high-growth Eastern Europe, Degussa is currently maintaining 23 subsidiaries active in a total of 19 countries. Matching the dynamic developments of this ascending economic region, Degussa has increased its engagement accordingly: the year 2004 saw the commissioning of facility for the extrusion of PLEXIGLAS® solid sheets in Russia. In Hungary, Degussa acquired Kyowa Hakko, a company active in the area of essential amino acids. In addition, the existing capacities for L-Threonine in the Slovakian Republic are currently undergoing further expansion.
The construction of a second DL-Methionine facility in Antwerp, Belgium, ranks as one of the largest investments Degussa has committed in West Europe. Thanks to the new facility at Degussa’s port location, the corporation commands two of the world’s largest Methionine production plants that boast an annual combined capacity of 200,000 tons. |
