Degussa European Science-to-Business Award 2006

The Winner 2006

On September 11, 2006 the award ceremony took place in the Berlin Communication Museum.  Dr. Alfred Oberholz, Deputy Chairman of Degussa AG, awarded the prize to Prof. Russell Cowburn.

About this award

The “Degussa European Science-to-Business Award” has been initiated by Degussa AG, the global market leader in specialty chemicals, Germany, in partnership with Germany’s leading business and financial newspaper Handelsblatt and one of Europe’s leading business schools INSEAD in France. The award will be granted for the first time in 2006, and under the patronage of the European science and research commissioner Janez Potocnik.

The award comprises

  • € 100,000 prize money
  • participation in an INSEAD general management coaching program
  • consultancy on business concept planning from INSEAD

By launching the award Degussa aims to reward young top scientists (not older than 35), who have completed outstanding innovative research that has excellent commercialisation potential in the field of material sciences and related technologies at research facilities in Europe.

It is a major goal of the award to provide significant financial and conceptual support to these scientists and their outstanding research work. In addition, the award aims to further strengthen Europe’s position in key technologies and the consequent transformation of scientific knowledge into innovation and commercial success.

Field of Research
This year's Degussa European Science-to-Business Award will be dedicated to research work in the field of Material Science and Associated Technologies. It is absolutely essential that the work has a clear business potential.
